Mrs. Tolzin
Hi Class. I know that you enjoyed reading Love That Dog. Now I hope that you will also appreciate reading Hate That Cat. On this site I would like you to write comments about figurative language that you have noticed, thoughts, and feelings that you have while reading the poetry. Mrs. Venem and I will be checking this blog regularly. We can't wait to read your thoughts. Have fun! Enjoy and as always, continue reading! :) Mrs.T

ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of alliteration in what we read today.
Examples are the purple pickle and polished pencil and chocolate chalk.
Uncle Bill would think this was wrong! I don't. I like it:).

ReplyDeleteWe read a lot of onomatopoeia today. Examples were "pop" and "buzz."
He wonders if people who can not hear can understand these sounds in their head. I wonder this too.

ReplyDeleteI liked the poem Jack wrote about a dog barking. He used onomatopoeia and rhyming.
an example of onomatopoeia is yip, yip. The example of rhyming is yip and ripple.
yip was used as both onomatopoeia and rhyming.

ReplyDeleteI hope that you are enjoying Hate that Cat!
Please take a moment to refelct on these two questions, then write a response.
1. Miss Stretchberry tells Jack that figurative language can "enrich" a poem. "They can make a poem sound 'purple.'" What does she mean?
2. Uncle Bill says that Jack's poems are "just words coming out." Do you agree? Are poems better with the use of figurative language?
Amanda, thank you for taking the time to post a comment at home.. You show commitment to learning!

ReplyDeleteI think Miss Stretchberry is trying to tell Jack that figurtive language will make it more surprising and it will make also make readers want to read the book.

ReplyDeleteWhen Jack wrote the poem about the black cat in the tree, he was sort of telling us why he does not like cats. He said that when he tried to save the cat the cat scratched Jack all over the place. He didn't like that because he was trying to save the cat anyway. That's why he really doesn't like cats.

ReplyDeleteI liked it when she said you have make it sound purple. She means that you should add details to make it sound purple. That's what the teacher means to enrich a poem.

ReplyDelete1. She means the figurative language can relate to purple and make the thoughts think of purple.
2. I think they are poems because poems don't need to have figurative language, and he gets inspiration from other poets

ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Uncle Bill at all because you don't have to make poems rhyme.I think it does make poems better because they make the poemmore interesting to read.

ReplyDeleteI don't think all cats are mean, and some people believe that black cats are bad luck. Jack got scratched in the face, I was suprised. He was trying to help the cat. My cat was not mean at all.

ReplyDeleteShe means that they can make a poem sound interesting. I disagree. Poems are enhanced with figurative language but it's unnecessary and optional to include poems don't need it but the kind of poem is important.

ReplyDelete1. she means that you can enrich a poem to make it more interesting. you can also make a poem sound like a color by using figurtive language.
Yes I agree because he is not telling a real poem, but sometimes he is like the Yip poem and the other dog poems he is telling a story about what he saying in his life.
Rachel
ReplyDeleteMs. Stretchberry means it can be better if you add more details to it like it is purple.
No I don't agree, but sometimes I think it can be better if you include metaphors, rhymes and other figurtive language, it depends what kind of poems they are
Marco
ReplyDeleteMiss Stretchbarry means by enriching it,it means to put more figurative language like more alliteration, rhymes, onomatpioa and other things. These things make makes poems more describing.

ReplyDeletemiss strectchberry means that when you turn your poem purple it means to make it exiting
Annabelle
ReplyDeleteI think that Mrs.Strechberry was saying that when you enrich a poem you are adding details so what you said before has more details.
No, I don't agree with Uncle Bill but when you use Metaphors and rhyming it is a better poem. It can make your poem stand out more. It can also make it funner.
